Public Consultation
Llandudno Beach Management Plan – Public Drop-In Event
Llandudno Coastal Forum, in conjunction with Conwy County Borough Council and its consultants, have organised a public drop-in session at the Victoria Centre in Llandudno to explain the recently published Beach Management Plan (BMP) and the options for the future management of Llandudno’s beaches.
The event will take place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th November between 10.30am and 4pm.
As the BMP is a technical document, this drop-in session is an opportunity for members of the public to speak to its authors on the possible options for the future maintenance of the Llandudno beaches.
The consultants will be on hand to explain the document, and to demonstrate the current and future flood risk to the town in the context of climate change.
Additionally, officers from Conwy’s Environment, Roads and Facilities Service will be available to answer questions about the plan and explain the current beach management techniques for protecting the coastal defences along the promenade.
Cllr Donald Milne, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Roads and Facilities and Member of the Coastal Forum, said:
“The Beach Management Plan shows the excellent progress achieved by the coastal forum over the last three years. I would urge all local residents to participate in the consultation. Join us at the drop-in sessions to discuss the options outlined in this important plan.”
Llandudno Coastal Forum was established in 2014 to provide an alternative voice for the future development of the North and West Shore beaches in the town. The Forum is working with Conwy County Borough Council to provide beaches that are fit for purpose, provide appropriate flood and coastal erosion management, improve the natural environment, the cultural heritage and can create commercial opportunities for the town.
Berin Jones, Chairman of Llandudno Hospitality Association said:
“Following the agreement of Conwy County Borough Council and Welsh Government to proceed with developing a new Beach Management Plan, this is a great opportunity for residents and the general public to gain an understanding of the key elements that will need to be considered going forward in developing a beach that’s fit-for-purpose. I would encourage everyone to come along to this event and look forward to hearing peoples’ views on the work so far.”
